Frank’s Fresh Mezcal-Poblano Margarita

Here is my margarita recipe that I published for the first time on Twitter for cinco de mayo. Since my tweets automatically delete after a few days I decided to also post it here. Not for the faint of heart.

1 oz – mezcal (Del Maguey Vida)
1 oz – orange liqueur (Cointreau)
.25 oz – Ancho Reyes Verde
.25 oz – lime juice

Shake w ice. Pour into a glass.

This was the recipe I came up with over several days of experimentation, trying to get the ratios just right so I could appreciate the smokiness of the mezcal, the taste and smell of orange and lime, and the picante of the poblano. The Ancho Reyes can be left out if you can’t find it.

Garnish with an orange wheel, a lime wheel, a jalapeño wheel, or any combination of these three. If you must, salt with Tajín Clásico.

¡Salud!
